This month we’re putting the spotlight on tanning brand, St Tropez. St Tropez is the leading tanning brand chosen by influencers, celebrities, salon professionals and beauty editors alike.

St.Tropez’s products give a natural looking, streak-free tan with their paraben-free, easy-to-apply formulations, each of which contains a natural tanning agent. All tanning products from St Tropez, both those used in the salon for our professional spray tans and those sold for home use are cruelty-free.  The brand also has a range of vegan friendly tanning products.

For home use, St Tropez produce self tan and gradual tan which builds over time. The self tanning products contain a higher concentration of the tanning agent (DHA), which results in a natural looking tan. Their gradual tans contain a lower level of tanning agent than the self tan which gives skin a sun kissed glow which builds with each application.

St Tropez use a 100% natural form of Dihydroxyacetone (also known as DHA) called Vegetan as their tanning agent, this is derived from plant sources including wheat and rapeseed. DHA reacts with the amino acids found in the upper epidermis (the top layer of the skin) and produces a different tones of colouration from yellow to brown. The levels of amino acids vary from person to person which is why we all naturally tan slightly differently in the sun, and the same applies with St Tropez tanning products.

The tanning products are combined with a unique blend of skin conditioning ingredients designed to protect and hydrate skin.

This month we’re putting the spotlight on aromatherapy brand, Tisserand who have been established since 1974. Founded by Robert Tisserand, the company was founded after his mother told him about aromatherapy and the power of essential oils, he spent years studying as an Aromatherapist and initially hand bottled blends personally, sending them out to customers from his local post office each Saturday morning. Over the years the company has grown, but the ethos to bring the finest quality oils to people remains.

Their award winning essential oil products are 100% natural and approved by the Vegan Society.
Their oils are sourced from around the world, and are each 100% pure organic, wild crafted or ethically harvested which is stated on each of the products.

The organic oils, bath and body products are accredited by the Soil Association with ingredients being 100% organic. Certified organic essential oils are derived from plants that have been grown without the use of any man-made fertilisers, herbicides or pesticides.

The wild crafted essential oils Tisserand produce are derived from plants that are gathered from their wild habitat in conditions which are favourable to the health of the plant, instead of being cultivated and care is taken to ensure the process remains as sustainable as possible.

Their Ethically Harvested products are derived from plants, trees and shrubs which are cultivated in a natural environment to ensure that the species is not depleted and is able to grow in abundance. This is rarely an issue with herbs, but more so with slower growing trees so care must be taken.

Before we introduce a new brand into the salon we spend time researching them with the quality of the products, training and client experience all paramount. Having done our market research and spoken with fellow salon owners we selected Crystal Clear for our new Microdermabrasion treatments.
Developed 25 years ago, Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion has become one of the most talked about facials due to the fact it can create a perfect flawless filter naturally, without any retouches.

The clinically proven treatment has fast become a firm favourite with many celebrities including Madonna, Kate Moss and Gwyneth Paltrow wanting to achieve flawless results without resorting to serious cosmetic procedures. Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion is a gentler way to approach and achieve a smoother more radiant skin.
Here’s what Sharon Hilditch MBE who is CEO and founder of Crystal Clear says: ‘Microdermabrasion is my all-time favourite exfoliation facial as the treatment offers solutions to a diverse range of skincare concerns, treating them all in a gentle and controlled way without any down time. Even after the very first treatment you can see the results, with skin instantly smooth and polished. I developed Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion some 25 years ago and the treatment is the only true Microdermabrasion treatment that utilises inert corundum crystals to be blasted at the skin’s surface. The crystals gently lift off the dead skin cells and the vacuum action removes the crystals and dead skin cells to leave a totally revitalised smooth and glowing skin. The reason I love this treatment so much is its ability to offer results instantaneously, with the benefit of being able to treat such a vast array of skin concerns; from ageing skin needing a quick pick up to younger skin suffering with skin congestion, and furthermore, it can also be used for highly effective body prep treatments’.

Before we introduce a new brand into the salon we spend time researching them with the quality of the products, training and client experience all paramount. Having done our market research and spoken with fellow salon owners we selected Lycon for our Hot Waxing. We love that they are a market leader in their field, and with good reason!

The products are of the highest quality making the waxing process easier for both the Therapist and our clients – it is virtually pain free thanks to their wax the wax adheres to the hair rather than the skin.
The company also offer excellent training and a number of our Therapists have now attended their courses, coming away with the skills and knowledge required. As we used Lycon to offer our Intimate Waxing this was an area we needed to be confident in so our Therapists could perform the treatments and reassure clients who are sometimes a little nervous.

Established in Australia over 40 years ago by Lydia Jordanne and internationally reknowned Beauty Therapist, Lycon waxing products are forulated using the finest natural resins and are not subject to any animal testing.

Treatment Name:
Shellac Hands or Shellac Feet

Treatment Type:
Long wear nail polish which can be removed without damage to the natural nails.

Cost:
£27.50 for Shellac Hands or Shellac Feet, or book both together for £55.

Salon Spotlight…

Throughout 2019 we’re putting the spotlight on a different treatment each month to tell you more about what each entails and how it could work for you. This month we’re focussing on Balayage and Ombré hair colouring at the salon and explaining the different choices – and which you should book to see the results your desire for your hair.
Treatment Name:
Balayage or Ombré hair colouring.

Treatment Type:
A professional hair colouring using more than one shade.

Treatment Time:
Will vary depending on the length and thickness of the hair. It’s approximately three hours on average though and we can advise you on an approximate time based on your individual hair and needs at your consultation.
Who’s it for?
Anyone wanting to create a new look with a new hair colour.

Which should I book?
There’s some confusion about the difference between Ombré and Balayage, so let’s start at the beginning. Ombré is a style whereas Balayage is a colouring technique. Ombré colouring lightens hair at the ends and a true ombré will show no distinct line, the colour will be graduated.

The Balayage technique refers to how the colour is applied, and the name comes from the French meaning ‘to sweep’ due the the fact that with this type of colouring highlights are swept across the hair. The transistion between the light and dark is slightly more natural looking with a little more depth.

When to Book:
When you are looking to update your look or simply fancy a change!
What Happens?
Your colourist will discuss the colours and results you’d like to achieve. A minimum of 48hours in advance we need to perfor a patch test to ensure you have no adverse reactions to the colours we’ll use. Ombré colouring fully saturates the ends of the hair with colour, and then diffuses upwards to create a graduated effect. With Balayage, unlike usual highlights which are applied using foils, the colour is painted directly onto the hair.

What Do I Need to Do Afterwards?
Using the correct hair products will help keep your hair in the best condition and help show off your new colour, we are always happy to advise on the best products to use at the time of your appointment. A professional shampoo and conditioner will help keep your colour for longer than some high street brands.

Results:
Both Ombré and Balayage will result in a graduated look, Balayage will look slightly more natural and sunkissed.

Cost:
Approximately £160, however this may vary depending on the length and thickness of the hair, along with the number of colours required. We will always advise you of the exact cost when you come in for your patch test and consultation.
Call 01280 816101 to book.
